Spectre, the latest James Bond movie, has smashed box office records in the UK, taking £6.3m on Tuesday. With an eagerly anticipated opening in the US on 6 November, Sony hopes the film, starring Daniel Craig, Christoph Waltz and Monica Bellucci, will match 007’s last outing, Skyfall, which is still the UK’s highest-grossing film of all time, taking £102m.
The lavish premiere at the Royal Albert Hall, London, on Monday night was attended by an array of stars and the great and the good of the media world – and apparently a gatecrasher. James Ware made a media splash with a video claiming he had blagged his way on to the red carpet, where he met Sam Smith, Chris Evans and Naomi Harris, into the screening and then to the after-show party at the British Museum.
However, there have since been claims that the part-time radio presenter actually paid for his ticket, with the Royal Albert Hall telling Radio 1’s Newsbeat that he was an “official premiere guest. Our database shows that James bought his tickets from the box office prior to the event.” Whatever the truth of the matter, it’s an impressive stunt worthy of 007 himself.
EastEnders actor Danny Dyer obviously felt that movie-makers had missed a trick by not casting him as the special agent. He lends his voice to a series of mini-Bond videos in which the language is as racy as the character.
Skyfall’s theme was sung by Adele whose new single, Hello, is taken from the new album, 25, out November 20. Adele’s Hello has already been viewed 128m times on YouTube and the video has spawned a host of spoofs, including Lionel Richie calling her and Adele won’t stop ringing me.
On the theme of someone going on and on, we’ve got a funny video on how runners just can’t resist talking about their sport, especially when they are training for a marathon. For Star Wars fans we’ve got the arrest of a man dressed as Chewbacca who was campaigning for a candidate called Darth Vader in a local election in Ukraine. He was charged and fined by police for illegally canvassing on election day.
Finally, to end on a musical note, marvel how different the Beatles classic Hey Jude sounds in a minor key in a clip made by Kurt Hugo Schneider and Tyler Ward, and catch a Barack Obama mash-up of him singing Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Happy Halloween!
