Drut faces IOC expulsion after corruption sentence

Guy Drut, the 1976 Olympic 110 metres hurdles champion, faces being expelled from the IOC after being convicted of corruption in France.

Guy Drut, the 1976 Olympic 110 metres hurdles champion, faces being expelled from the International Olympic Committee after being convicted of corruption in France. The former French sports minister received a 15-month suspended sentence in Paris yesterday and a €50,000 (£34,000) fine. Drut was also a leading member of Paris's unsuccessful bid to stage the 2012 Olympics but withdrew from any involvement to avoid possible hostile questioning in Singapore. "The case has been with the ethics commission which will [study] the matter further and in due course [make] a recommendation to the IOC," said Giselle Davies, an IOC spokeswoman, last night.
