One killed in helicopter crash at Xe, formerly known as Blackwater Worldwide

Authorities say a helicopter has crashed on the property of the US security firm mired in Iraq controversy

Authorities say one person is dead and a second seriously injured following a helicopter crash on the Moyock, North Carolina campus of the private security contractor Xe, formerly known as Blackwater.

Currituck county spokesman Randall Edwards says the person was pronounced dead at the crash scene. He says the injured person aboard was taken to a hospital in nearby Chesapeake, Virginia.

Federal aviation administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen says the small helicopter crashed today when the aircraft's skid caught on an object and flipped over. She said earlier that one person was hurt.

A Xe spokeswoman says this is the first serious injury in the 11-year history of the company's training facility, which is located about 30 minutes south of Norfolk, Virginia.
