Proof that teaching’s going down the pan | Brief letters

Teacher troubles | Global Britain | Bald all over | Life-changing app | Books for free

• How disgraceful (Headteachers forced to mend desks and unblock toilets after cuts in England, 28 April). When I was a secondary teacher, that job would have been delegated to a head of department.
Ken Gambles
Knaresborough, North Yorkshire

• Now we know what the Conservatives mean by “global Britain” – selling public assets to foreign owners (How the overseas owners of England’s water companies clean up by polluting our rivers, 26 April).
Titus Alexander
Galashiels, Scottish Borders

• As an extremely bald man, I’ve been cheered by the many positive letters about that affliction (Letters, 24 April). However, it is worth remembering a more sober maxim: “If you go bald at the front of your head, it’s because you think. If you go bald at the back, it’s because you’re sexy. If you go bald all over, it’s because you think you’re sexy.”
John Lancaster
Peterborough

• I was surprised to find no mention of the free Libby app among ideas to get people reading (Letters, 28 April). This ebook and audiobook resource from the library means that I always have one book on the go and several “on hold”. I can read wherever I am, on my phone, in the middle of the night without waking anyone. I’m on my 24th book since the start of the year. A life-changer.
Sue Lewis
Norwich

• The BorrowBox app gives you access to an incredible number of ebooks, periodicals and audiobooks. All free of charge. All you need is a library card from your local library.
