While her personal life may seem to be unravelling, Amy Winehouse's professional career is continuing to thrive as she received six nominations ahead of the 50th annual Grammy awards.
The Grammys - the most prestigious awards ceremony in popular music - are renowned for their endless list of prizes and for anointing generations of rock royalty.
Alongside Winehouse, the rapper Kanye West was the most successful act, earning eight nominations, while the Foo Fighters, Jay Z, Timbaland and Justin Timberlake gathered five each.
As well as being nominated in the best album category. for Back to Black, and for best record (Rehab), Winehouse picked up nominations in the categories of best new artist, song of the year, best pop vocal album and best female pop vocal performance.
The singer, who recently cancelled her British tour after her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, was held in custody on charges of assault and perverting the course of justice, has been the persistent target of tabloid attention.
Earlier this week, she was photographed walking the streets barefooted at 4am earlier this week.
She was also the butt of jokes from host George Lopez at the nomination ceremony, which took place in Los Angeles yesterday.
"Could somebody wake her up this afternoon around six (o'clock) and tell her?" Lopez said. "Usually when I'm high and drunk, I'm not very good, but Amy has it down to where she can get a good buzz going and be very creative."
West and Winehouse will be favourites to win the best album award, the most highly valued of all the prizes.
The other nominees in that category are jazz legend Herbie Hancock, country star Vince Gill and rock band the Foo Fighters.
The awards take place in Los Angeles on February 10.
