TV tonight: the final season of Emmy-winning black comedy Barry

The actor hitman is locked up – but for how long? Plus: what next for the Roy siblings in Succession? Here’s what to watch this evening

Barry

9.40pm, Sky Comedy

Hailed as an unsung gem by its fans, this intense Emmy-winning dark comedy about actor Barry (Bill Hader) who is also a hitman reaches its fourth and final season. After Gene (Henry Winkler) set up an ambush in the last episode, it picks up with Barry in jail, trying and failing to get hold of his terrified girlfriend Sally (Sarah Goldberg). Surely, though, he can’t spend the next eight episodes in there? Hollie Richardson

Sarah Beeny’s New Life in the Country

8pm, Channel 4

Sarah Beeny and her family continue to transform their former Somerset dairy farm into a dream home. Shell complete, sights are now set on interiors. Prepare for a grand library inspired by their former 18th-century doer-upper Rise Hall – think dark wood, bespoke bookcases and a hidden drinks cabinet. Danielle De Wolfe

Blue Lights

9pm, BBC One

This exceptional Belfast-set drama is a police procedural, but also a story about the long tail of the Troubles and how the sectarian violence of the last century continues to shadow the present. This week, a disastrous night shift sees a death, a staffing crisis, a few metaphorical and literal bloody noses, and the uncovering of a scandal within the station. Phil Harrison

Storyville: Deborah James – Bowelbabe in Her Own Words

9pm, BBC Two

An intimate documentary spanning the last five years of Dame Deborah James’s life, in which she grappled with incurable bowel cancer. Stitched-together footage from James’s phone, TikTok, voice notes, podcasts and social media posts offers a candid portrait of diagnosis, treatment, fundraising and family life. Micha Frazer-Carroll

Succession

9pm, Sky Atlantic

Knowing that the saga of the Roy family will finally be resolved has helped this final season: with the stakes raised again, every backstab and comeback was carrying extra weight even before the stunning events of last week’s pivotal episode. Now, as the sale of Waystar Royco looms, the manoeuvring takes on a dark new hue. Jack Seale

Murderville

10.15pm, BBC Three

This committed but not entirely convincing US remake of Tom Davis’s massively superior crime spoof Murder in Successville gets a BBC airing. For this first series, Will Arnett’s gnarled senior detective Terry Seattle is joined by Conan O’Brien to investigate the murder of a magician’s assistant. It’s fun in places but never quite nails the right comic tone. PH
