Following the murder of George Floyd in the US in May 2020 and the ensuing global Black Lives Matter protests, Britain found itself reckoning with its colonial history. Most notably, BLM protests in Bristol in June 2020 ended in the removal of the statue of slave transporter Edward Colston and it being thrown into Bristol harbour.
