Caroline Quentin: A Passage Through India
9pm, ITV1
In the first instalment of this three-part series, Caroline Quentin, having decided that she isn't "very well-travelled", takes us through India, travelling from the north right down to the south, giving us insight into many aspects of Indian culture. She spends time with families, cooks with locals, travels on overnight trains and laughs her way through the experience. In fact, she carries the programme very well, with self-deprecating humour and effortless charm. Candice Carty-Williams
Heston's Mission Impossible
9pm, Channel 4
Must aeroplane food always remain a nightmare at 20,000ft? Well, don't blame the chef. Cabin pressure and high altitude typically cause the taste buds to conk out (a mixed blessing, some might say), which means Heston Blumenthal has his work cut out preparing the kind of gourmet dishes for British Airways that airline passengers will actually appreciate. But without access to a proper kitchen, sharp knives or naked flames, can Heston conjure up a meal that gives you wings? Ali Catterall
The Big C
11.05pm, Channel 4
Now it's settling into its groove, there's plenty to enjoy about this show. It's finding its voice and giving Laura Linney's Cathy much more than her cancer to deal with. Tonight, she catches son Adam watching adult entertainment on his laptop, leading to some nice scenes in which she talks to him about his future with women without mentioning that this is a future she will never see. Her cancer looms over everything she does, from getting a bikini wax to flirting with guest star Idris Elba (also currently appearing in The Office). It's nowhere near as tasteless a show as it first appeared. Phelim O'Neill
Agony & Ecstasy: A Year With English National Ballet
9pm, BBC4
Presumably anyone even remotely involved with professional dance is already rueing the day Natalie Portman stepped into a tutu and pioneered the pas de deux of doom, but it does mean that interest in ballet is on the up. This fascinating documentary goes behind the scenes of the English National Ballet, following dictatorial choreographer Derek Deane as he struggles with casting, funding, visas and injured dancers. Rebecca Nicholson
True Stories
10pm, More4
It's easy to cynically pigeonhole this film – a documentary about a bunch of kids from the less desirable neighbourhoods of Mumbai preparing to perform The Sound Of Music with a professional symphony orchestra. However, once you cease the sneers about it being Slumdog Millionaire crossed with Spellbound and Glee, there is no getting around the fact that the kids are heartbreakingly likable, the adults helping them decent, hard-working and inspiring, and the film compassionate and utterly uncynical. Andrew Mueller
The Ricky Gervais Show
11pm, E4
Series two for this Gervais vehicle, which has turned the podcasts Ricky did with Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington into a Flintstones-style cartoon. First up, Karl pitches a film where the hero has a brain transplant, and there's more from Monkey News. Look elsewhere on E4 for more Tuesday toon fun, with The Cleveland Show (Cleveland and Roberta hang out), Bob's Burgers (a musical murder mystery dinner in the diner) and King Of The Hill (Hank takes Bobby to a football game).
