David Brent, entertainer, to play two gigs in May in London and Oxford

Ricky Gervais announces further live dates for the ex-Wernham Hogg middle-manager and his band Foregone Conclusion

David Brent, star of BBC2 comedy The Office, is heading out on the Free Love Freeway once more with two new dates added to his live tour schedule.

The character at the heart of Ricky Gervais's BBC2 comedy The Office will take to the stage of the Oxford New theatre on 14 May and the Hammersmith Apollo, London, on 16 May.

The shows will be an easy commute from his hometown of Slough, where Brent served until recently as general manager of the (fictional) paper company Wernham-Hogg.

Tickets for Brent's autumn 2013 gigs at London's Bloomsbury theatre and Bristol's Colston Hall sold out in under 15 seconds. As then, he will share billing at these latest shows with his band Foregone Conclusion, featuring former Razorlight frontman Andy Burrows. Their set will feature such popular hits as Spaceman Came Down, Slough, and Life on the Road, as well as new material.

Tickets go on sale on Friday 7 March at 9am. "Stay tuned," tweeted Brent to his 70,000 followers – still some way off the 5.6m who follow his creator Gervais – before adding the hashtag "#Excited (Not Sexually)".

Fans can learn the lyrics and chords to Brent's repertoire with an online tutorial, Learn Guitar with David Brent, which marked his first return to broadcasting since The Office finale in 2003.

Gervais, a three-time Golden Globes presenter, has meanwhile offered his services as next year's Academy Awards host, tweeting: "RT if you'd like me to host next year's Oscars, drunk, without any rehearsals."
