England weigh up Bangladesh safety issues before planned winter tour

• Security adviser to evaluate viability of tour after Dhaka terrorist attack
• England scheduled to play two Tests and three ODIs in October

The England team’s security adviser Reg Dickason will travel to Bangladesh on Monday to assess safety issues in the country ahead of England’s scheduled five-week tour of two Tests and three one-day internationals in October.

The tour was cast into doubt last month when a terrorist attack in a cafe in the capital, Dhaka, left 20 people dead and the current Foreign Office advisory states that there is “a heightened threat of further terrorist attacks and foreigners … may be directly targeted”.

Australia pulled out of a tour to Bangladesh last year and their under-19 side did not participate in their World Cup at the start of this year.

Following the scheduled tour of Bangladesh, England visit India for a five-Test series before Christmas before returning to India in the new year for a limited-overs tour.
