Duke kicks out the trad

"This place could do with a kick," said Scottish saxophonist Tommy Smith, looking up at the Hub's fresh cobalt-blue ceiling, before counting the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra into the first-ever concert at this brightly restored edifice. Built in 1845 as the assembly hall of the Church of Scotland, the Hub has now been refurbished at a cost of £7.5m to be the home of the Edinburgh International Festival.
