The Purple One struck again last night, ambushing another London venue for a performance with his band 3RDEYEGIRL.
Following his two impromptu gigs last week at Camden’s Electric Ballroom, fans queued for hours to get a £10 ticket for the show at the 2,000 capacity Shepherd’s Bush Empire, where Funkadelic’s George Clinton was in attendance.
The two and a half hour set consisted of greatest hits like I Would Die 4 U, Sign O’ The Times and When Doves Cry, as well as new material created for 3RDEYEGIRL, such as Fixurlifeup and Funk’n‘roll, described by Kitty Empire as ‘the sort of timeless genre exercise that Prince could write blindfolded, with one hand tied behind his back and a rose in his teeth.’
There’s no clues as to where the next show will take place, but the singer has mentioned a number of venues that he’s got his eye on, including Ronnie Scott’s and Soho’s the Bag O’Nails Club. More news as it comes.
