Kelis - Food: Album stream

Hear the tasty sixth album from Kelis and let us know if her vintage soul direction satisfies your appetite

Kelis has been busy recently and not just in the studio. Her impressive performances at Austin's SXSW festival were interspersed with another passion of hers – cooking – and you could catch the R&B star cruising around the city handing out free duck sliders and glazed ribs to fans.

Her two passions intertwine on her sixth album, Food. Just check the titles: Breakfast, Jerk Ribs, Friday Fish Fry, Biscuits N' Gravy.

Musically, the flavour is very much a retro one - a propulsive brass section is one of many classic soul stylings here - although this being Kelis, the whole affair never feels anything but modern. Following the David Guetta-fuelled dance direction of her previous album Flesh Tone, this can be considered the latest in a line of impressive stylistic switches.
