When we last featured Manchester's Gareth Daley – known mononymously as Daley – back in 2011 we mentioned that he seemed to be doing things at his own pace, choosing to kickstart his career with a free mixtape, the knowingly titled Those Who Wait. Well, the wait seems to have worked seeing as he's since gone on to duet with Jessie J (on the Blue Boy sampling Remember Me) as well as working with the likes of Pharrell Williams and ?uestlove on his forthcoming debut album, Days & Nights. For the album's first single, the Emeli Sandéesque Broken, he collaborated with songwriter Andrea Martin, who's most famous for writing En Vogue's R¶B masterpiece Don't Let Go (Love), and Bernard Butler who used to play guitar in Suede (and who co-produced much of Duffy's debut album). While the original's windswept strings and nods to 90s drum and bass are very now, the song really comes to life in the capable hands of remix duo Cahill, who have have reworked songs by the likes of Cheryl Cole, Mariah Carey and Robbie Williams. For their remix – premiered here – Daley's transformed into a dance diva, the song's polite soul nods transposed onto the dancefloor for a ludicrous, glow stick ready raveathon.
Broken is out on 22 September via Polydor.
