This week it’s all about songs with creative self-awareness. What does the song have to say about its origins, its inspirations, its muse? What fuels the composition process or what hampers it? Does it reflect on its instrumentation? Does it apologise for its insufficiency? Does it anticipate its performance?
You have until 11pm on Monday 17 October to post your nomination and make your justification. Regular RR contributor Sheila Deane (who has set the theme and who posts in the comments as thoughtballoons) will select from your recommendations and produce a playlist.
Here is a list of all songs previously picked and therefore ineligible for the series.

Here’s a reminder of the guidelines for RR:
- Tell us why it’s a worthy contender.
- Quote lyrics if helpful, but for copyright reasons no more than a third of a song’s words.
- Listen to others people’s suggestions and add yours to a collaborative Spotify playlist.
