Surfer Blood’s new video depicts one of rock’n’roll’s most classic rags to riches narratives: man performs lute in car park for 1,000 years, gets headhunted by major label fat cat, loses his mind to drugs and fame, drives motorbike and ends up slumped in public loos before being jettisoned on a desert island with only his lute and a miniature topless gyrating adult as company.
While Grand Inquisitor follows a surreal storyline, perhaps there is some sly suggestion of truth in there: the band’s last album followed a frustrating time at their previous home at Warner Brothers, before the quartet returned to their DIY roots with the self-recorded album, 1000 Palms.
