How does he do it? Incessantly touring the world with a small band, bearing most of the solo weight and playing at full stretch every time. Rollins does it because he is convinced he can only play his best before a live audience, improvising from scratch, without the safety net of a studio. This third volume of his Road Shows series, recorded between 2001 and 2012 in various venues stretching from France to Japan, is exceptional, even for him. Someday I'll Find You, in particular, is a 15-minute wonder of creative energy and wit.
Road Shows, Volume 3 review – exceptional, even for Sonny Rollins
