Readers create a playlist on a theme of their choice. This week: 10 romantic tracks from alternative music legends

Create your top 10 here

We recently invited readers to submit a playlist of 10 songs on a theme of their choosing. This week we've got Glen Bushell's compilation of 10 alternative love songs. Are there any other songs you'd add to the list? Let us know in the comment thread below.

If you have an idea for a playlist you'd like to put together, visit this page to send it our way.

1. The Smiths - There Is A Light That Never Goes Out

"Whenever I mention Morrissey to people they instantly say he's 'depressing'. Well this is an out and out love song. Particularly poignant if you really would go to the very end with someone."

2. My Bloody Valentine - When You Sleep

"A perfectly beautiful song to capture the confusion of both the joy and pain of love."

3. The Stone Roses - I Wanna Be Adored

"Because whether you admit it or not, everyone wants to be adored by someone."

4. Nirvana - Heart Shaped Box

"A twisted love song that sounds razor sharp on the surface, but beneath that lies a beautiful sense of adoration for another perso."

5. The Cure - Pictures Of You

"Everyone has done it – sat there and stared at a picture of a crush or the person you love, knowing you would give anything to be with them."

6. Ride - Vapour Trail

"A perfect song to fit any teenage-like crush, that gives you the same feeling as said crush smiling at you for the first time."

7. Nick Drake - Northern Sky

"I think everyone can relate to this song, hoping that someone will love you for the person you are, not because of the things you have."

8. Sugar - If I Can't Change Your Mind

"More of a break-up song than a love song, but the feeling of rejection has just as much of an effect on the heart as love and the two go hand in hand for me."

9. Oasis - Wonderwall

"Wonderwall was apparently what John Lennon used call Yoko instead of Wonderful. I am not a Beatles fan but that story alone is cute enough for this to be included, and I would love someone to be the one to save me."

10. Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart

"Unfortunately it seems nothing ever lasts forever, and sometimes love turns bad. Never has song fitted that sentiment so well."
