Justin Bieber's Buckhead move: we were hoaxed

Atlanta radio station fooled worldwide media with its mock campaign against Bieber moving to upscale neighbourhood

We were had. It turns out yesterday’s story about residents of an upscale Atlanta neighbourhood protesting against Justin Bieber moving in was a hoax.

DJs from the Atlanta radio station Rock 100.5 created a Facebook page supposedly representing Buckhead residents who wanted to stop Bieber living in the area. The Guardian, BBC News and CNN were among scores of media outlets that fell for the hoax.

MTV has now asked Buckhead people what they think, and the answer was a little surprising.

“Buckhead takes pride in being home to many celebrities such as Sir Elton John, Usher and Shaquille O’Neal to name just a few,” Tom Tidwell, chairman of the Buckhead Council of Neighborhoods, told MTV. “Justin Bieber, like many celebrities, can live almost anywhere he wants, and Atlantans should be proud that he is considering making Buckhead his home.”
