Scott Hamilton Quartet: Dean Street Nights – review

(Woodville)

The Pizza Express jazz club on London's Dean Street must feel like home to Scott Hamilton and his British band. They appear there often, the place is packed solid every time, and playing there always brings out the best in them. A supreme master of the jazz tenor saxophone, Hamilton seems to get better with the years – even more fluent, more swinging, more adventurous. And, far from being mere accompanists, pianist John Pearce, bassist Dave Green and drummer Steve Brown constitute one of the finest trios you'll hear anywhere. Live, straightahead jazz doesn't come much better than this.
