Nine Inch Nails stun fans with secret new album

Trent Reznor says he's been 'secretly working' with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder on full-length LP, due at end of 2013

Nine Inch Nails' new album is finished. Three months after announcing their return from a four-year hiatus, Trent Reznor has revealed the group's eighth LP will be out by the end of the year.

"I've been less than honest about what I've really been up to lately," Reznor said in a press release. "For the last year I've been secretly working non-stop with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder on a new, full-length Nine Inch Nails record, which I am happy to say is finished and frankly fucking great."

This new music is the motivation for the band's reconfiguration and this summer's "full-on arena tour", Reznor admitted. "My forays into … other projects really stimulated me creatively and I decided to focus that energy on taking Nine Inch Nails to a new place." The as-yet-unnamed record will be released by Columbia Records, who also represent Reznor's other band, How to Destroy Angels.

Nine Inch Nails' last album, 2008's The Slip, was released as a free download on the band's official website. It later appeared on CD and vinyl, reaching No 25 in the UK charts. With a lineup that now includes King Crimson's Adrian Belew and Telefon Tel Aviv's Josh Eustis, Nine Inch Nails' summer dates include appearances at Lollapalooza, Rock en Seine, and the Reading and Leeds festival.
