With its sleigh bells, tobogganing pace and exuberance that could power a small town's festive lights, Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You is a justly celebrated Christmas classic, and has just sold its millionth copy according to the Official Charts company.
The song first went on sale in 1994, and was beaten to Christmas number one by East 17's Stay Another Day. It has consistently sold well during the Christmas season since the advent of digital downloads, returning to the charts in 2007 where it reached No 4. It has hit the top 20 each year since, apart from 2010, and currently stands at No 12.
"I'm driving home looking at the snow in my hometown of NYC, celebrating selling 1m copies of All I Want for Christmas Is You in the UK," Carey said in a statement. "Thank you, thank you to all of my British fans!"
The song is inevitably racking up more and more cover versions as its popularity continues to snowball. Last year, Ariana Grande made an excellent stab at it in a Mariah-channelling Christmas dress, while this year a pair of K-pop sensation, Lee Hi and Park Bom, have done a schmaltzy, slowed-down ballad version.

Carey is currently consolidating her position as No 1 Christmas diva by performing her 12 Days of Christmas series on the US TV network NBC, appearing on various shows throughout the festive period, including an appearance with fellow Christmas enthusiast Michael Bublé. She also performed live at the switching on of the Christmas lights on the famous tree at the Rockefeller Centre, and in the clip above, shows viewers round her exceptionally Christmassy house (complete with two trees in one room).
