Courtney Love not involved in new Kurt Cobain documentary

Director of proposed film says that while he met late Nirvana singer's widow, he is only dealing with Cobain's estate

Courtney Love is not involved "in any capacity" with a new film about Kurt Cobain, overseen by his estate. Love and the proposed director, Brett Morgan, have corrected reports that they are collaborating on the proposed documentary about the late Nirvana singer.

Love's publicist insisted she is not working on the movie, contrary to an article in the New York Post. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Morgan said his comments had been taken out of context. "Back in 2007, I had a meeting in LA with Courtney Love to discuss my possible involvement in a Kurt Cobain documentary," he said. "She had seen my film, The Kid Stays in the Picture, and thought that I had the right vision and passion to bring Kurt's story to life."

"Since that time," he went on, "I have been speaking exclusively with Kurt Cobain's estate, who have given me their full co-operation in order to make the film. Courtney isn't currently involved with the project in any capacity."

Morgan is currently promoting Crossfire Hurricane, his new documentary about the Rolling Stones. According to the article in the New York Post, his proposed Nirvana film will use Cobain's own photography and films to tell the story of his life. "Kurt was not only an amazing songwriter and musician, he was an incredible artist and film-maker," Morgan said. Cobain was 27 when he took his own life, on 5 April 1994.

Morgan said he hopes to begin production "in the coming months", with a view to a 2014 release.
