Scott Weiland rejoins Velvet Revolver. That's news to Slash

Guitarist denies singer's claim that he has reunited with Velvet Revolver, saying 'he's out of his mind'

Scott Weiland has rejoined Velvet Revolver. Four years after he was sacked as their frontman, Weiland has announced that the musicians "put aside [their] egos" and are recording a new album. The only problem? The other members of Velvet Revolver don't know anything about it.

"He's out of his mind," said Slash, Velvet Revolver's guitarist, in an interview with 93x. Although it's true that Weiland played a one-off concert with Velvet Revolver in January, nobody else seems to think it went any further. "I'm on tour all year," Slash said. "I'll call [bassist] Duff [McKagan] – but I seriously doubt it … We have no intention of going backwards." McKagan also denied they had reunited with Weiland: "April Fools?" he tweeted. "Oh wait … Its half-way through May. Nevermind … #huh?" The group's other two members, drummer Matt Sorum and guitarist Dave Kushner, have yet to comment.

Whatever the basis of Weiland's theory about the group reconvening, it seems pretty fleshed-out: "We've all grown a lot," he recently told ABC News Radio. "They gave me a couple of songs, and myself and Dave and Duff are going to be getting together for a songwriting session next week. Slash is going to do some touring then we're going to do some shows in the later part of summer into early fall."

Velvet Revolver have been hunting for a new singer since splitting with Weiland in 2008. While Myles Kennedy, the singer with Slash's band, and Slipknot's Corey Taylor have been rumoured as possible replacements, the band members been distracted with their other projects – including Slash, Sorum, and McKagan's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
