Fleetwood Mac may never return to the road, according to Mick Fleetwood, who blamed Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham for scuppering touring plans. Nicks and Buckingham's solo careers have made for years of delays, he said, in a "very inconvenient way".
"I don't believe Fleetwood Mac will ever tour again, but I really hope we do," Fleetwood told Playboy magazine. The group apparently "rehearsed and prepared" for a tour in 2010. When that didn't happen, they were "supposed" to play live in 2011. "But we delayed it for a year to allow Stevie to support her solo record and for Lindsey to do the same with his," Fleetwood said. Despite comments by Nicks last spring, the band still shows no sign of heading back on the road.
"I played drums on most of Stevie's album [2011's In Your Dreams], the one she is still out there supporting and the one that is the reason that, for now, she refuses to do a Fleetwood Mac tour," Fleetwood complained. "Stevie is really proud of [the record], and I get that, but she will not let it go … I've always been supportive of my bandmates doing solo albums so long as we kept our band [going]."
Nicks' problem, Fleetwood suggested, is her ego. "I understand what she likes about her situation. Touring in support of her album, she is able to be her, without any degree of compromise. She doesn't have to worry about the other three of us asking her to do anything."
Fleetwood Mac last played concerts in 2009, grossing more than $70m (£45m).
