Bob Dylan is to release his 35th studio album on 10 September. Tempest will feature 10 songs, produced by "Jack Frost" – a pseudonym for Dylan himself.
Among the listed titles is Roll on John, which will intrigue Dylanologists. Although Dylan's label, Sony/Columbia, has announced that the album consists of 10 originals, Dylan performed a traditional song called Roll on John live on US radio in 1962, the year he also released his debut album.
As ever, Dylan fans have launched into fevered discussion of the new album, despite knowing nothing about it other than titles and release date. On the Dylan fansite expectingrain.com, the meaning of the album title was the subject of speculation. Could it be a reference to The Tempest, Shakespeare's last play, and would this make it the last Dylan album? Or is it a reference to a secret US govenment telecommunications project from the 60s? The only certainty is that we are unlikely to get answers from Dylan.
The full tracklisting for the album is:
Duquesne Whistle
Soon After Midnight
Narrow Way
Long and Wasted Years
