Late 1930s: Number 9 in our series of the 50 key events in the history of world and folk music

Date it to when he acquired his Gibson ES250 in the 30s, or to the seminal records he cut after the second world war, but the electric revolution starts with Aaron Walker. On hits such as T-Bone Shuffle and Stormy Monday, the Texas bluesman created a style that became an indelible influence on BB King, Chuck Berry and more. The ex-dancer's stage show included tricks like playing behind his head and with his teeth. A young Jimi Hendrix was among those taking note.
