Kanye v 50 Cent

11 September 2007: Number 49 in our series of the 50 key events in the history of R&B and hip-hop music

The pitting of 50 Cent against Kanye West, when both released albums on the same day in September 2007, highlighted the diverging facets of hip-hop in the last decade; the former was gangsta rap for the noughties, while West was the thinking man's alternative. The winner? Kanye beat Fiddy on sales. 50 cent likes to tweet a lot.
