Noel Gallagher lifted new album from Oasis sessions, claims Liam

Former Oasis singer says songs on forthcoming project from brother Noel were conceived during work on Dig Out Your Soul

Noel Gallagher "swiped" his new solo material from Oasis, Liam Gallagher has claimed. Although Noel has yet to formally announce his first post-Oasis outing, his brother is already certain he knows the songs. "I've heard his fucking new record 'cos I fucking sung on half of it," Liam said. "Fucking nonsense."

According to Liam, the tracks on the as yet untitled Noel Gallagher album were conceived – and versions recorded – during the sessions for Oasis' last album. "When I was in America for Dig Out Your Soul, he swiped some off because he obviously knew he wanted to do a solo album," Liam told Uncut magazine. The 2008 record was mixed in Los Angeles.

Despite Liam's bluster, it's not clear how he knows anything about Noel's solo work. They allegedly "haven't spoken" since Noel left Oasis in August 2009, and certainly no tracklist has been released. "I haven't seen him," Liam said. "It's very hush-hush round his camp." While he still has lots to say about football, Noel has scarcely commented on music over the past year. He is a busy father, "doing nappies and all that malarkey". But according to Creation Records co-founder Alan McGee, who has heard Noel's demos, the tunes "are as good as anything [Oasis did] ... the reason that guy is quiet is he knows what he's got up his sleeve."

Liam is not convinced. "I'm not arsed with what he's doing," he said. "I'm sure it will all be very civilised and grown-up. His gigs will be like those that you can really stroke your chin at. With four rent-a-Scousers wearing shell suits."

Liam Gallagher's new project, Beady Eye, will release their debut album on 28 February.
