Jane's Addiction have replaced their former bassist with a member of TV On the Radio. Like a computer geek joining a biker gang, Dave Sitek has been inducted into Jane's Addiction for the foreseeable future, performing on – and writing songs for – their next album.
"[We] are fully immersed in the process of making modern music," frontman Perry Farrell said. "The results have so much potential." Besides teaming up with TV On the Radio's Sitek, Jane's Addiction have also announced the involvement of producer Rich Costey, who previously worked on Muse's Absolution and Interpol's Our Love to Admire.
Jane's Addiction have seen a couple of different sidemen since the group's original bassist, Eric Avery, quit the group in March 2010. Duff McKagan, formerly of Guns N' Roses, spent six months trawling the low end, before leaving to pursue other projects. The band then enlisted past collaborator Chris Chaney for last week's New Year's Eve gig in Aspen, Colorado.
Although best known for his work with TV On the Radio, Sitek has become one of alternative music's biggest chameleons. Besides recording solo as Maximum Balloon, he has produced albums by Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Liars and Scarlett Johansson. Although Sitek will not be producing Jane's Addiction, he may join them on tour.
"The events over the past year have proven themselves to be a necessary part of the journey," founding guitarist Dave Navarro said. "They have led us to our current creative team and direction ... This process has been both inspiring and incredibly freeing."
Jane's Addiction's new LP is due this summer. Their last album was 2003's Strays.
