New music: Trailer Trash Tracys – You Wish You Were Red

A kaleidoscopic swirl of a song, which is all the better for not having a choir of animals on it

To look at them you wouldn't think Trailer Trash Tracys are influenced by the Sound of Music, but they are. Kind of. While recording and re-recording (they're quite the perfectionists) their forthcoming debut album, Ester, the band tuned their guitars and pianos to the "solfeggio scale", which as any Rodgers and Hammerstein fan will know is basically a seven-syllable scale that goes doh, re, mi, fa, sol, la, ti. In case that wasn't brilliantly pretentious enough, they also use a lot of Sufi poetry as inspiration for their lyrics and even tried to record a choir of animals for the album. Thankfully, their new single You Wish You Were Red doesn't draw inspiration from Edelweiss or Emmerdale. It's a kaleidoscopic swirl of reverb-heavy guitar, cheap beats and Susanne Aztoria's laconic vocals. For their first ever video – premiered here – the band are bathed in neon light, covered in smoke and layered over slow-motion shots of billowing fabrics. Perfect.

• Ester is due on 9 January via Double Six/Domino.
