WALLS: WALLS | CD review

(Kompakt)

WALLS are comprised of London DJ/musician Sam Willis of krautrock/electronic/disco DJs Allez-Allez, and Alessio Natalizia, the man behind the electro shoegaze of Banjo or Freakout. As you would expect from those CVs, what transpires is a dreamy blend of slow electronica, glitchy beats and German influences such as Tangerine Dream. In some cases, what that creates is anthemic, as with the glittery Burnt Sienna; in others, such as Cylopean Remains, it's like difficult easy listening, with globules of sound resisting each other like chip fat and washing up liquid. But it's an arresting set nevertheless.
