The Libertines to reunite in 2011?

The band's former guitarist, Carl Barat, has said that 'it would be glorious to get on the old jacket' and return with Pete Doherty

The Libertines may reunite in 2011, according to Carl Barat, so long as "everything's all right". The band's erstwhile guitarist – and principal reunion hold-out – said it would be "glorious" to return to the stage with former partner Pete Doherty.

"It's not definite definite," Barat told the Evening Standard. "It's hard to plan the Libertines until next Tuesday. But 2011 is where there's room for [a reunion] to happen. So if everything's all right, then, yeah, it would be glorious to get on the old jacket and venture forth, into the known."

Barat has previously been the main obstacle between the Libertines reconnecting with their legions of fans. "The last thing I wanna do is completely burden my mind [with a reunion]," he said last year. The former Dirty Pretty Things frontman reportedly turned down a million-pound offer to headline the Reading festival, preferring to focus his attentions on acting. "I said, 'Why don't we just do it?'" Doherty complained, with Barat allegedly replying that Doherty has too much "negative energy".

Now, Barat is on the verge of his stage debut – performing with Sadie Frost in a Riverside Studios production of Fool for Love. He has said before that he wanted to stick with acting to "learn the craft", but suddenly that Libertine glitter is once again in his eye. "If it works," he said, "and there's a window for that - no, a window makes it sound like a business meeting. If there's a doorway, then certainly we'll go through it."
