Jack White to produce next Wanda Jackson album

The White Stripes frontman is to collaborate with the 'Queen of Rockabilly' and former girlfriend of Elvis Presley

Rock'n'roll legend Wanda Jackson is to record a new album with Jack White. The 72-year-old "Queen of Rockabilly" recently confirmed that she is travelling to Nashville to work with the White Stripes frontman.

"[He's] one of the biggest stars on the planet right now," Jackson told the Oklahoman. While he is best known for his work with the White Stripes, the Raconteurs and the Dead Weather, White is also an experienced producer. Most relevant to Jackson is his work with country singer Loretta Lynn for her 2004 record, Van Lear Rose.

"They had a super album, but he didn't have her do anything different," Jackson said. "She just did her little Loretta Lynn songs. But he told me he's gonna stretch me some."

Jackson has been making records for more than 50 years, since former boyfriend Elvis Presley suggested she might have a voice for rockabilly. Hits like Fujiyama Mama and Let's Have a Party appealed to a wider audience, and she was inducted into the Rock'n'roll Hall of Fame in April 2009.

It was Jackson's website manager, Jon Hensley, who introduced her to White after learning that he was a "big fan". Jackson's most recent album, 2003's Heart Trouble, also featured contemporary artists, including Elvis Costello and the Cramps. With White, Jackson hopes to record a digital single followed by an album.
