Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl honoured with his own alleyway

The former Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters' frontman has had a street named after him in his hometown of Warren, Ohio

Dave Grohl returned to his hometown to be officially honoured with his own street this weekend.

The Foo Fighters frontman was given the keys to the city of Warren, Ohio on Saturday, and watched in awe as Market Street Alley was officially renamed Dave Grohl Alley.

The musician returned the favour by treating fans to three songs at the end of the week-long Music is Art festival on the lawn of Turnbull County Courthouse. Grohl took the stage as local band Love Turns Hate were performing, playing drums for them on two songs. He then performed three Foo Fighters' tracks, Times Like These, My Hero and Everlong.

According to local news service The Vindicator, Grohl told the crowd: "I had to come. It's such a huge deal." Before introducing his parents, he continued: "When I was a kid, I used to love to come here. This is one of my favourite places in the world." He then toasted the new Dave Grohl Alley sign with a bottle of champagne.

Handing out the honour, city director of public safety, Doug Franklin, told Grohl: "You already have the key to our hearts and to top that, I'm going to give you the key to the city."

It recently emerged that Grohl is working on a new project with Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones. Additionally, Foo Fighters will release a greatest hits compilation this autumn, set to feature two new tracks.
