Though you may not have heard of him or his band, you've probably heard Owen Pallett's work without knowing it. A man who can supply classy arrangements at the drop of a hat, his genius is to deliver sumptuous orchestrations that make credit-crunched rock stars sound like they're actually enjoying a period of great plenty. Lately, it's a service he's performed for the Arcade Fire and the Last Shadow Puppets, but it's well worth paying attention to his own work in Final Fantasy. "Band" is too grubby a word for what the Canadian is up to here. Displaying the same taste that he offers for his clients, FF's songs hark back to the high romance of Cole Porter, the whole project more cinematic and delicate than the indie circuit on which he operates.
