It's mildly ironic that the latest controversy around the Sex Pistols should have started from a conversation about the band John Lydon formed after their break-up, Public Image Ltd. To swiftly recap: after approaching John Lydon backstage at a Spanish Festival recently, Bloc Party's Kele Okereke and members of the Sex Pistols entourage became embroiled in a fracas after Okereke suggested Lydon reform PiL. What's maybe most surprising, though, is Lydon's incidental remark about this latest Pistols reunion: "a wonderful tour". It seems that worldwide, goodwill still exists for Lydon's largely hate-fuelled band, and now the fiftysomethings are enjoying this last flog of their slightly portly horse. For those attending there might be a certain nostalgic thrill. Here, as in Spain, though, you have to wonder what sort of people the Sex Pistols have around them these days.
