The rehabilitation of Pete Doherty is well underway. Not only is the singer enjoying the fruits of detox in a Wiltshire facility, his musical career has pushed itself back on the rails, too, with the latest Babyshambles single the highest new entry on this week's singles chart.
After weeks of buzz about a return to form for the tabloid troubadour, it appears the public have backed the critics, sending Delivery straight through the letterbox of the top 10 and onto the doormat marked number six. Pete is closely followed by fellow indie hero Dave Grohl, whose Foo Fighters are in at number eight with The Pretender.
This, of course, means that pop-reggae kingpin Sean Kingston is able to hold onto the number one spot for another week, his third, while 50 Cent sees his Ayo Technology reboot and crunch its way up to number two.
Leaving the singles to one side, albums have also been up for sale and there is movement within their ranking too. For, after winning his sales battle with 50 Cent last week, Kanye West has been straight-way crushed by James Blunt, whose second album, 1973, is the most popular with the British public this week. That leaves Kanye at number two, while, two mediocre awards show performances having proved to be just the tonic for Amy Winehouse, Back to Black climbs up to number three in its 47th week on chart.
Other album entries of note include Sheffield rouster-dousters Reverend and the Makers in at number five with The State of Things, while a band previously labelled as up-and-coming, Scouting for Girls, are now officially arrived with their eponymous long player in at number 12. Most intriguingly of all, however, Mark Knopfler turns out to still be box office, landing at number nine with his new solo album, Killing for Crimson.
