Review: Vitalic

7 out of 10: Sunday, 7pm, Dance East. Pascal Arbez's impeccable timing makes the efforts of Simian Mobile Disco on this very stage yesterday look just amateur.

Stage: Dance East

Time: Sunday, 7pm

Dress code: This audience seems to have made the most effort, with inventive twists on dance-club threads and lots of sunglasses.

In summary: Pascal Arbez, aka Vitalic, certainly knows how to work a crowd hungry for some solid electronic music, of which there is a chronic shortage at this year's festival. His impeccable timing makes the efforts of Simian Mobile Disco on this very stage yesterday look just amateur.

Highlight: La Rock 01, Poney Part 1 and No Fun. The first is still a club anthem after all these years, and all three receive welcome whistles of approval when dropped.

Lowlight: More electroclash-esque vocals (think Miss Kittin) on some of the tracks could have added that missing something.

Unusual occurrences: Someone wearing what looked like a policeman's motorcycle helmet, visor down.

Mark out of 10: 7

Where they'll be on the bill next year: Probably nowhere. Unless Vitalic comes up with another release like 2001's Poney EP.

Will be talking about this set until: It's not about the talking. If you were there, you'll remember the good bits for a while yet.

9 out of 10. It's hard not be impressed by a sequinned frontwoman who cheerfully crowd surfs above cloacal horror.

Singer Simon Aldred's rough, sexy voice chills the bones and warms the soul. Looking like Daniel Craig's naughty younger brother doesn't do any harm either.
