Like many 1980s bands, Motley Crue took the least admirable qualities of heavy rock (macho posing, guitar bombast) and bludgeoned a career out of them. That they did so with infinitely more gusto than any of their contemporaries does little to redeem the dunderheaded, redneck-pandering tosh they served up in the name of music.
On a more positive note they had a peerless grasp of rock'n'roll showmanship and very hardcore tattoos. This DVD collects all the promos (Harley Davisons, half-naked women in cages etc) along with an extensive interview with Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee. A more lifelike pair of Beavis and Buttheads you could not hope to find. Buy this for a feminist friend and you can cross them off your Christmas list next year.
