I’m 70 and would like a smartphone, but don’t want to spend a fortune

I need email, internet and a few useful apps – which phone should I buy?

Every week a Guardian Money reader submits a question, and it’s up to you to help him or her out – a selection of the best answers will appear in next Saturday’s paper.

This week’s question:

I am a with-it 70-year-old whose Nokia mobile phone has finally died. I’m looking to join the smartphone club but don’t know much about them. I need access to email, the internet and a few useful apps, but don’t want to spend a fortune. Tell me which phone to buy.
