The Guardian won five awards at the 2007 Newspaper Awards last night.
There was success too for News International's afternoon freesheet the London Paper, which won the newly created grand prix award.
The Guardian won prizes for national weekday newspaper of the year and national weekend newspaper of the year for the Saturday Guardian.
Judges said of the Guardian: "It was difficult to find anything wrong with it."
The Saturday paper was praised as a "very fine package offering something for everyone".
The Guardian also won awards for newspaper printer of the year, environmental newspaper company of the year and outstanding use of colour for its Trafford Park Printers.
Judges said the printing of the Guardian was "faultless", "technically excellent" and a "joy to behold".
The London Paper, launched in September, won the newly created grand prix award, beating the Guardian, the Reading Chronicle, the Daily Telegraph, the Financial Times and the Manchester Evening News.
Judges said of the London Paper that they were "particularly impressed by the idea of launching a newspaper aimed at 18- to 35-year-olds" as it was such a hard market to reach.
The Irish News won the regional newspaper of the year award, while Spanish newspaper Marca was the international newspaper of the year.
The Oxford Times was the weekly newspaper of the year and Glasgow's Sunday Herald was awarded the newspaper design of the year award.
ManchesterEveningNews.co.uk beat a host of national websites to win electronic news site of the year. TimesOnline.co.uk, Guardian.co.uk, Telegraph.co.uk, bbc.co.uk/news, Newburytoday.co.uk and Pinkun.com were also nominated.
Tim Bowdler, the Johnston Press group managing director, was named personality of the year.
The Observer, which like the Guardian, ManchesterEveningNews.co.uk and MediaGuardian.co.uk is owned by the Guardian Media Group, was highly commended in the weekend newspaper of the year category.
The Newspaper Awards, organised by trade paper Production Journal, were held at the Park Lane Hilton in London last night.
