Guardian Unlimited has been named best daily newspaper on the world wide web at the 2005 Newspaper Awards, a week after winning an online "Oscar".
The Guardian's website beat those from the Telegraph, the Financial Times and the Scotsman to win the accolade at an ceremony in London last night to celebrate the country's only industry awards dedicated to newspaper and news media production.
"Should this Award be renamed the Guardian Unlimited Award?," asked the judges in their citation.
"Never afraid to experiment with traditional and new publishing models, it continues to remain true to its core layout and design values," they added.
It was the sixth successive year that Guardian Unlimited has won the award.
Last week Guardian Unlimited was named best newspaper on the internet at the Webby Awards - described by Time magazine as the online Oscars - beating the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal and Variety.
The Guardian was highly commended in last night's awards as environmental newspaper company of the year, with Mortons Print, an independent printer and publisher, picking up the top prize.
The Telegraph picked up two gongs, pipping the Independent on both occasions. The Telegraph won national newspaper of the year and newspaper design of the year, with the Independent highly commended in both categories.
The Sunday Times was named weekend newspaper of the year and Gloucester's the Citizen won the regional newspaper of the year award.
The Times' printer, News International Wapping, took away the newspaper printer of the year award, beating its sister plant in Knowsley, which was commended.
