Everton 2-0 Bournemouth: Premier League – as it happened

That’ll do from me – here’s the match report to enjoy before you skitter off to watch Spurs-United. Thanks for your company, as always!

Amid all that, it was a milestone for Begovic.

Now I am not saying this game wasn’t today’s biggest show, but Spurs v Man Utd is fairly weighty too and starts soon. Ben Fisher is all over it:

Bournemouth will, indeed, regret lacking a finishing touch when they were so well on top early on. That Brooks chance, when he hit the post, was a key moment in the game. They stay 12th, while Everton soar to the giddy heights of 10th. For the Toffees’ part, Lookman was excellent and has surely supplanted Walcott in the pecking order for now.

90+5 min: ... which is met by Mousset, but he can’t connect with his volley cleanly and a grateful Pickford dives onto it. That could well be that.

90+4 min: Everton survive that corner but then concede another. Begovic wants to go up but Howe won’t let him! Pickford ends up hammering the ball away from somewhere close to his own corner flag. It’s backs to the wall stuff – and here comes another flag kick for the Cherries ...

90+2 min: Big challenge from Keane! Mousset plays Gosling in and the defender, in combination with the onrushing Pickford, does enough to deny the shot and concede the corner! Before it’s taken, Sigurdsson is replaced by Yerry Mina.

90 min: Ibe whips in a tremendous cross from the right byline and Keane is fortunate that his clearance hits Mousset and flies behind. Just before that, Everton survive a mild goalmouth scramble. There’ll be five added minutes and Goodison suddenly sounds very nervous indeed.

89 min: Then Fraser delivers a free-kick from the left and Pickford, again, gets just enough on it to deflect away. Do Bournemouth have one more big chance in them?

88 min: Suddenly the ball squirts free on the left of Everton’s area and it’s a race between Fraser and Pickford! The keeper wins it, crucially for his side, and smothers the ball. It runs free but he pelts it out of play.

87 min: Richarlison, who has worked hard and almost scored when Ake cleared off the line, is replaced by Calvert-Lewin.

86 min: Silva is angered by a Gosling challenge – sufficiently so that the referee, Taylor, has to go over to the dugouts and calm him down. It has been largely scrappy and niggly since Zouma’s goal.

84 min: Now Richardson goes up against Cook in a less edifying way, catching him with a flailing hand and causing some pain. He is rightly booked.

83 min: He has Jordon Ibe up his sleeve, to be fair and on he comes for Brooks. But it’s Everton who attack next and Richarlison, going up against Cook, blazes over from an angle on the left.

81 min: You just don’t quite sense Bournemouth are going to have the cutting edge they need here. Most of their moves are falling short before they get into the penalty area; I’m not sure what else Howe really has up his sleeve either.

78 min: Here’s Walcott for Everton, replacing the largely impressive Bernard.

77 min: That would have sealed it though – Richardson stooping to head another fine Sigurdsson delivery just wide from somewhere near sea level.

76 min: The pressure continues and Bournemouth win their latest corner, Pickford saving Ake’s header comfortably.

75 min: Then Gomes concedes a free-kick in a far more dangerous area, just outside his own box and on the right. He’s on a tightrope! King needs some extensive treatment as a result and, for now, that will continue on the side. Eventually Fraser delivers the set-piece: it loops up off a head and Pickford has to punch away from under his own bar.

73 min: Gomes almost succeeds in chasing down Begovic, but then gets overeager and catches Cook very late. He’s been booked already and I think he should be off for that – lucky boy.

71 min: The away side are pressing now but time is beginning to look tight. Everton look fairly comfortable.

68 min: Here’s Lys Mousset, replacing Stanislas for Bournemouth. I wonder if things would be looking rather different had Wilson been fit for this.

66 min: Now it gets a bit fiery as Gomes and Zouma are both booked following a contretemps caused by Gueye’s foul on Stanislas. Neither needed to get involved.

65 min: Bournemouth need a response and King almost provides one, marauding down the inside-left before drilling high into the side netting. The away side shouldn’t really be behind but credit to Everton for stepping things up the way they have.

61 min: But Everton up the tempo as I write that, Coleman belting the ball against Ake at close quarters – calls for a handball go unheeded – and winning a corner. From which ...

60 min: All a bit scrappy as we reach the hour mark and you wonder whether this is a game that will be won from the bench.

57 min: Brooks tries to slip Stanislas in but his team-mate is offside. Everton have, since the first half hour, succeeded in stopping Brooks getting too much space between midfield and defence.

55 min: Lerma, never a shrinking violet, barges Bernard over clumsily with little need and Everton have a centrally-located free-kick, just about within realistic shooting range if Sigurdsson wants to belt one. Instead he floats a harmless ball towards Zouma, which is headed out for Bernard to volley waywardly.

52 min: It’s a fun start to the half and Bournemouth have a corner on the other side now. It’s not dealt with very well at first, but the ball comes back in and eventually Everton sort themselves out. There’s a half-ricochet off Zouma’s arm amid all that, but nobody appeals.

51 min: A first glimpse of Bournemouth in this half, as they win a left-sided corner through Fraser .. from which Cook gets a run on the home defence and loops a header tantalisingly onto the roof of the net!

49 min: Off the line from Ake! My, that was close. Gueye’s ball from the right finds Richardson at the far post, and his initial header is blocked. But he gets a second chance to drill past Begovic, and duly does ... only Ake to slide and hack the ball away from *right* on the line. Fine defending.

47 min: Bernard *just* isn’t tall enough to reach a beautiful Sigurdsson cross from deep. Everton have begun this half as they finished the first.

We must try to see the best in both these teams. Lookman has been a plus for Everton, definitely their best attacking player. Brooks made Bournemouth tick for half an hour.

What happened in that WSL clash between Arsenal and Chelsea? No spoilers here ... but it was a massive result for the title race, potentially, and Suzanne Wrack was there to tell you the rest:

45 min: Now Sigurdsson does get a shooting chance after some bright play from Bernard, but he snatches at it from inside the ‘D’ and it goes well wide. A little more composure might have seen him work Begovic.

44 min: Now a chance to really make some hay before the break, as Gosling checks Richardson 25 yards out. Sigurdsson will fancy it ... and so will Digne, who dollies a harmless one into the wall when the angle didn’t really suit him.

42 min: A lovely Everton move sees Lookman, who is playing well, slip a perfectly-weighted ball through for Coleman, who has to settle for a corner. It’s cleared out to the left and Digne delivers ... onto the head of Keane, whose header grazes the bar! At the moment they won’t want the half to end, because they’ve really woken up.

39 min: Ooh, that’s certainly better from the hosts. Digne lays inside for Lookman, who fizzes a *dream* of a low centre across but discovers that Everton don’t really have a centre-forward out there. Nobody is gambling and Bournemouth survive. Bernard is then booked for a late challenge.

38 min: This end-to-end spell continues with a corner for Everton, who are just livening up a bit. Lerma thuds it away, unchallenged.

36 min: It’s not really a high-quality game but it is certainly quite open and decently paced. Everton nod away a disappointing Fraser corner, and then Fraser gets another go but centres too close to Pickford. There’s a goal or two in this one.

34 min: ... which Richarlison deals with, winning two consecutive headers. Everton then break through the same player but he can’t pick out Lookman ... but they keep attacking and Clyne defends excellently at the back post to prevent Lookman from getting a shot away from Bernard’s cross.

33 min: The excellent Brooks is fouled about 35 yards out, at a slight angle on the right. It’s good for a delivery into the box, this. Fraser’s kick is flicked out by Keane for a corner ...

31 min: A quieter few minutes, followed by Everton’s first vaguely scintillating moment, Lookman running away on the right and crossing for Bernard, who is awkwardly placed and can’t direct his header near goal. Will Bournemouth regret not scoring in that first half-hour?

28 min: Fraser darts in to intercept another sloppy Pickford clearance and crosses for King, who heads a fairly difficult chance over. Everton have to wake up or they will lose; Bournemouth look much better.

27 min: From the corner, Everton can’t fully clear and Lerma shoots against his own man before Gosling fires into the stand.

26 min: Smith gets up, at length, and this potentially very dangerous set-piece can be taken. Stanislas steps up ... and forces Pickford into a handy tip round the post with a low, bouncing effort curled round the wall.

24 min: Bournemouth remain the more lucid in possession and Brooks can’t quite find Fraser at the end of a patient move. Then a combination of Gueye and Gomes concedes a free-kick just outside the box – causing Smith some pain ...

22 min: They are angered, though, by a late challenge by Ake on the hitherto invisible Richarlison that goes unpunished. They’re not too happy, either, when Zouma plays Pickford into trouble and forces a hurried clearance out of play.

21 min: It’s fairly quiet inside Goodison. You can hear the players’ shouts quite comfortably. There’s the low hum of a crowd rather waiting for things to happen. At the moment there’s little sign of that from Everton.

18 min: For the first time Everton manage some sustained pressure and possession, although nothing results bar some mild handbags between Gosling and Gomes. They’ll need to improve massively on that first 15 minutes.

16 min: Everton win a corner on the left, though. Zouma charges onto Digne’s delivery but Bournemouth have enough bodies in situ to clear.

14 min: Brooks hits the post! He’s played through in the inside-right position by Stanislas and onside, with just Pickford to beat. He rolls the ball across the keeper delicately ... but it strikes the inside of the far post and pings out. Bournemouth, much the better side so far, really should be ahead.

12 min: Lerma skids a long one wide. Everton are yet to get going at all.

11 min: It’s a good few minutes of pressure from Bournemouth and the highly involved Brooks seeks a penalty, flinging himself down as he looks to surge into the box beyond Gueye. There seemed to be a tangle of legs but Brooks also appeared to be tugging Gueye’s shirt, so it is the right decision from a well-positioned Anthony Taylor.

8 min: Chance for Josh King! Coleman can only glance a right-sided delivery out to an unattended Fraser, whose first touch makes a shot impossible but can cut the ball back from the byline. It goes through a defender’s legs to King, who is tightly marshaled and can only get a half-contact as he jabs at it, allowing Pickford to smother at close range.

7 min: Lookman gets himself out of a tight spot with a lovely turn inside his own half. He’s a talent alright, but Everton need to get him in the right areas today.

6 min: “The comments from Moshiri are a bit of a storm in a teacup,” writes Rick Jackson. “Taken in context, they were more of a statement of the obvious. We’re a work-in-progress and most Everton fans are happy with the progress made so far. This time last year, we were miserable and frustrated, rather than just frustrated like now.”

4 min: Now a glimmer for Everton, Sigurdsson’s dangerous free-kick from the right ricocheting off a couple of players and forcing Begovic to clutch down to his right side.

3 min: Coleman decides its time to show Fraser he is actually there, clipping him late and causing him to wince as he walks away. He’ll be fine but that’s already a contest to keep an eye on.

1 min: A bright early sortie from Bournemouth, Fraser skipping away from Coleman on the left before laying back for Stanislas. His leg is cocked but Bernard does superbly to track back and snick the ball away.

Ha – it currently works!

The teams are walking out of Everton’s tight, old-school tunnel at Goodison – perhaps the league’s most old-world venue these days. Z-Cars is whistling loud and clear ... we are almost ready!

Great to see Lookman get a go (although you’d wonder, too, whether Walcott might be all but done at a team with pretentions to the top 10). It’s only his sixth start in the league for Everton, but he impressed in scoring against Lincoln in the cup last weekend.

And while we wait for this one, Arsenal and Chelsea are facing off in a big Women’s Super League clash. Nick Miller has it:

The big takeaways from that team news are that Ademola Lookman gets a – ahem – look in for Everton, with Theo Walcott benched. For Bournemouth there’s a big blow, because Callum Wilson is injured and doesn’t make it. Liverpool loanee Nathaniel Clyne starts, though.
