So that’s the Uefa group stage done and dusted. The draw for the play-offs comes next week for reasons best known to the oh-so-wise and always sage football authorities who only do things for the right reasons.
Still to come though, is Argentina’s attempt to make it to Russia. The last World Cup without the Albiceleste was 1970 and they travel to Ecuador today (12.30am BST) in need of a win. Rob Smyth will have all the action right here. But from me, it’s goodbye.
But what does it all mean?
Group A: France holding on for what, by all accounts, was a pretty miserable 2-1 win over Belarus and Holland’s win over Sweden means France qualify for the World Cup and Sweden head into the play-offs.
Group B: Portugal’s win means they pip Switzerland for top spot and automatic qualification. Switzerland are in the play-offs.
Group H: Belgium were already through as group winners and Greece join the play-off gang after doing the necessary against Gibraltar.

Full-time scores
Group A: France 2-1 Belarus, Luxembourg 1-1 Belarus, Holland 2-0 Sweden.

Group H: Belgium 4-0 Cyprus, Estonia 1-2 Bosnia-Herzegovina, Greece 4-0 Gibraltar.
Updated
Full-time: Holland 2-0 Sweden
A win for Holland but not enough. Sweden make the play-offs, France qualify as group winners.
Full-time: Portugal 2-0 Switzerland
All over in Lisbon. Portugal qualify as group winners, Switzerland have to settle for the play-offs.
Schaar goes clattering hilariously through Moutinho in midfield and inexplicably fails to collect a booking from the bizarrely inconsistent referee.
GOAL! Estonia 1-2 Bosnia-Herzegovina (Hajrovic 84)
Bosnia-Herzegovina go back in front in Tallinn, Hajrovic with his second of the night.
Sweden launch a rare attack, then take the pace out of the game and begin passing among themselves. Robben is hobbling for the Dutch but with all three subs used by Dick Advocaat he’s staying on, the trooper.
GOALS! Greece 4-0 Gibraltar, Hungary 1-0 Faroe Islands
Daniel Bode gives Hungary the lead against the Faroes, and it’s four for Greece: Giannis Gianniotas with the latest against Gibraltar.
GOALS! Belgium 4-0 Cyprus, Estonia 1-1 Bosnia-Herzegovina
Romelu Lukaku, sprung from the bench, adds another for Belgium and Ilja Antonov equalises for Estonia

Cristiano Ronaldo is clean through! And makes a right old pig’s ear of it! He springs the offside trap and looks to walk the ball round Sommer but the keeper comes away with the ball.
Updated
Sommer saves sharply as Pepe thunks a shot at goal.
The ball zips across the Swiss six-yard box again and Ronaldo is a foot or so away from being able to nod home. Switzerland have been poor since the break, in truth – they’ve become open at the back without carrying any more threat going forward.
GOAL! Though not one of much import!
Ivailo Chochev has spared Bulgarian blushes in Luxembourg – he’s equalised midway through the second half.
Twenty minutes to go and everything seems pretty much wrapped up: Portugal and France are heading straight to the World Cup; Sweden, Switzerland and Greece are heading for the play-offs. And Holland, semi-finalists in 2010 and 2014, will be spending the World Cup summer at home for the first time since 2002.
Shaqiri flashes a shot just wide as Switzerland look for a way back into the game. It’s all got a bit fractious and fractured in Lisbon. And I probably should have picked this up before but Madonna is in the crowd. So now you know.

GOAL! Belgium 3-0 Cyprus (Hazard 63pen)
Belgium are heading to Russia in style.
Over in Amsterdam Holland are creating very little now against stubborn Sweden.
GOAL! Latvia 4-0 Andorra (Davis Ikaunieks 63)
Latvia are running riot: Davis Ikaunieks makes it 4-0 against Andorra.
Elsewhere in Group B, Valerijs Sabala has his second of the evening and Latvia’s third against Andorra.
GOALS! Belgium 2-0 Cyprus, Greece 3-0 Gibraltar
All sorted in Group H. Former Fulham hotshot Konstantinos Mitroglou doubles Greece’s advantage and then adds a third moments later, and Thorgan Hazard makes it 2-0 to Belgium against Cyprus.
GOAL! Portugal 2-0 Switzerland (A Silva 57)
A lovely goal this, with some terrific passing and movement from Portugal. Switzerland are carved open and the ball is fed across the box to Silva, who just about manages to force the ball home and send the Estadio da Luz into paroxysms of joy.
Updated
The first Sweden player goes into the book for time-wasting. Lustig the guilty man on 55 minutes.
GOAL! 0-1 Estonia 0-1 Bosnia-Herzegovina (Hajrovic 48)
Izet Hajrovic gives Bosnia-Herzegovina the lead, a goal most notable really for being the first to give an away side the lead this evening.
Portugal win a couple of free-kicks on the Switzerland right, and Lichtsteiner “accidentally” treads on Andre Silva’s outstretched hands as he drops to the turf. A little nawty (and a lot stupid) from the Swiss captain.
Switzerland, though, are probably a team you’d want to avoid. They’ve started the second half well, Lichtsteiner leading the charge.
And, after a fashion, Sweden get is back under way in Amsterdam. From the evidence of the first half, I’d suggest a few sides might fancy taking on the Swedes in the play-offs.
Peep! We’re back under way in Lisbon.
A half-time dispatch from Tallinn
“I’m in the stadium in Tallinn where the flares stopped the match and two interesting observations,” writes Robin Hazlehurst. “One, there was an awful lot of Bosnians gatecrashing the Estonia seats before the match as if they knew something was up. And second, most of the smoke blew over the Bosnian end and when it cleared so had they. Seems something was planned for the ultras but the real fans are ignoring it. Half time now and all fans are mixing with both scarves etc so the flare stuff is no big deal.”
All half-time scores
Group A: France 2-1 Belarus, Luxembourg 1-0 Belarus, Holland 2-0 Sweden.
Group B: Hungary 0-0 Faroe Islands, Latvia 2-0 Andorra, Portugal 1-0 Switzerland.
Group H: Belgium 1-0 Cyprus, Estonia 0-0 Bosnia-Herzegovina, Greece 1-0 Gibraltar.
Half-time: Holland 2-0 Sweden
Holland have made a start but they have an awful lot more to do.
Updated
Half-time: Portugal 1-0 Switzerland
Frustration for the Swiss – Portugal top the group as it stands.
GOAL! France 2-1 Belarus (Saroka 44)
And the goals keep coming. France aren’t sitting quite so comfortably now, as Anton Saroka halves their advantage.
A busy few minutes then. The upshot: Portugal are heading straight to Russia, Switzerland to the play-offs; Holland/Robben need five more.
GOAL! Portugal 1-0 Switzerland (Djourou 42og)
From the stunning to the scruffy. The ball is whipped low across the six-yard box where Sommer, Djourou and Joao Mario converge. The keeper gets a slight touch, just enough to nudge the ball onto Djourou who can only watch helplessly as the ball bobbles off his shin and rolls gently over the line.
Updated
GOAL! Holland 2-0 Sweden (Robben 40)
Holland have their second, and what a goal it is. Janssen, on the left, rolls the ball back firmly to Robben on the edge of the box and the Bayern man clatters a gorgeous first-time left-foot effort past Olsen. Wonderful.
Babel and Janssen force Olsen into a double save as Holland press for a second.
GOAL! France 2-0 Belarus (Giroud 33)
Any tension France supporters were feeling will have ebbed away now. Giroud doubles the lead and tightens their grasp on top spot.
Updated
What a miss! Tete has a terrific chance to double Holland’s lead but sidefoots over the bar from close range.
GOAL! Greece 1-0 Gibraltar (Torosidis 32)
An important goal in Piraeus – Greece are ahead against Gibraltar. Vasilis Torosidis, a veteran of four Greece squads at major championships, has given them the lead and narrowed Slovakia’s already gossamer-thin chances of a reprieve.
Ronaldo tumbles on the edge of the Swiss box and as everyone hesitates expecting a free-kick to be awarded, the ball is smuggled out to Andre Silva. He lashes a ferocious shot at goal but Sommer does well to turn the ball away.
Ryan Babel whips in a low free-kick at the Sweden goal, and Olsen is relieved to watch the ball skip narrowly wide.
GOAL! France 1-0 Belarus (Griezmann 27)
France break the deadlock and take a decisive step towards the finals, thanks to Antoine Griezmann.

In Lisbon, Andre Silva crashes into Djourou and escapes a booking. Moments later, Xhaka picks up a yellow card for an innocuous handball.
GOAL! Latvia 2-0 Andorra (Sabala 19)
Valerijs Sabala doubles the home side’s lead in Riga.
Unhappy scenes coming through from Tallinn as Bosnia-Herzegovina supporters bring the game to a halt:

That Holland goal is also good news for France, who are currently 0-0 with Belarus.
“Apropos of no football whatsoever, I wonder if your bonus vending machine Maltesers were down to sheer luck, or cunning?” begins Peter Oh (sheer luck, I can assure you). “Allow me to share my vending machine moment of glory. I once found an item hanging by a thread, abandoned by a previous customer. I duly inserted my change and pressed the button for the item above the dangling sweets. Sure enough, as it dropped, my selection knocked loose the abandoned item, leaving me with two candy bars for the price of one. I suppose the Dutch team’s task today could be described similarly. All they need to do is knock down five loose bags of Maltesers with the sixth one above.”

GOAL! Latvia 1-0 Andorra (Ikaunieks 11)
Davis Ikaunieks puts Latvia ahead against the minnows in Riga.
GOAL! Holland 1-0 Sweden (Robben 16pen)
Arjen Robben dinks a horrible penalty towards the shins of the tumbling Olsen but the ball somehow squeaks in. One down, six to go.
PENALTY TO HOLLAND!
Manchester United’s Victor Lindelof smacks an attempted clearance against his own hand and the referee points to the spot.
GOAL! Belgium 1-0 Cyprus (Hazard 12)
The Chelsea forward gives the home side the lead in what should be one of the more routine victories of the evening. It’ll be fascinating (again) to see if Belgium can forge their undoubted individual talents into a cohesive tournament unit when it comes to the finals.
Updated
Holland right-back Tete hammers a cross-shot into the box, where Robben attempts a diving header and guides the ball a couple of yards over the bar.
Switzerland and Portugal take it turns to flail attempted crosses into the stands behind their opponents’ goal. It’s all a bit frenetic at the moment.
GOAL! Luxembourg 1-0 Bulgaria (Thill 6)
Olivier Thill opens the scoring for Luxembourg, who need a win to give themselves a chance of moving off the bottom of Group A. They’ve never won more than one game in World Cup qualifying before, and in 2017 they’ve already beaten Belarus and drawn, astoundingly, in France. That 8-0 hammering from Sweden was a bit of an outlier.
… Switzerland clear and Joao Mario carries the ball into the box before feeding Andre Silva. His shot takes a deflection and Sommer saves well at his near post.
Eliseu gets one of the most blatant shoves in the back imaginable from Shaqiri and Portugal have the chance to put the ball into the Swiss mixer …
Sweden have an early free-kick and the chance to swing the ball into Holland box. Granqvist nods Augustinsson’s cross wide.
Switzerland’s Djourou clonks a short pass straight out of play, giving Arsenal fans a few flashbacks.
Ronaldo rallies his troops in Lisbon and then his team get us underway. And the Dutch have kicked things off in Amsterdam too.
There’s some lightshow cracking off at the Amsterdam Arena. And a big booming countdown to the players emerging from the tunnel. The Swedish fans in attendance seem to be enjoying it rather more than the home fans.
So there’s excitement ahead and there’s excitement behind. This evening? It seems rather less likely, unless Really Very Weird Things happen in Groups A and H in which case things could very exciting indeed.
It’s likely though that the most exciting place to focus on tonight will be Lisbon’s Estadio da Luz, where the Euro 2016 champions need a win to avoid the ignominy of the play-offs and where I once got a bonus bag of Maltesers from a vending machine during a Benfica v Schalke Champions League group game. Either way Portugal have already outshone the Greece side of 2004, who managed to finish fourth in their 2006 World Cup qualifying group on the back of their Euro success. And nothing will ever outshine free Maltesers.
And later on Argentina have to raise their level in Ecuador:
Then earlier today, Tim Cahill took Australia one step closer with an extra-time winner in their play-off against Syria:
It’s been a busy 24 hours in World Cup qualifying. Last night, Iceland secured their spot in Russia:

Preamble
Hello all and welcome to live coverage of the final night of the group stage in Uefa World Cup qualifying! Seven teams are already in Russia (figuratively speaking) and five have bagged berths in the play-offs. Who’ll be joining them? Let’s find out. Together.
Who needs what?
Group A France need a win against Belarus to be sure of top spot – anything else and Sweden can nip past with a win over Holland. The Dutch need to hammer Sweden by seven goals in Amsterdam to nab their spot in the play-offs. Fixtures France v Belarus, Luxembourg v Bulgaria, Holland v Sweden.
Group B It’s all about one game here: if Portugal beat Switzerland in the Estadio da Luz, they take top spot and the Swiss have to settle for the play-offs. Anything else and Switzerland are through to the finals, with Cristiano Ronaldo and co in the play-offs. Fixtures Hungary v Faroe Islands, Latvia v Andorra, Portugal v Switzerland.
Group H This has the (very slim) potential to get slightly more complicated. Belgium are through as group winners, so Greece and Bosnia-Herzegovina battle it out for second spot. If Greece, currently second, beat Gibraltar, as they surely will, they go into the play-offs, easy peasy. But if Greece somehow fail to beat the minnows and B-H beat Estonia to take second spot … Slovakia qualify for the play-offs (Don’t ask, but they do). Fixtures Belgium v Cyprus, Estonia v Bosnia-Herzegovina, Greece v Gibraltar.
