Sunderland seal season-long loan deal for Manchester United’s Adnan Januzaj

• Januzaj joins Paddy McNair and Donald Love in signing this week from United
• David Moyes insists Everton target Lamine Koné will be offered new contract

Sunderland have completed the signing of Adnan Januzaj on a season-long loan from Manchester United. David Moyes has returned to his former club to sign the 21-year-old Belgium winger, after already securing the services of Paddy McNair and Donald Love on four-year contracts on Wednesday.

“Adnan will give us a different variation,” said the Sunderland manager Moyes at his pre-match press conference. “I have to get him back to the level he played at two years ago. He will get every opportunity to do the business. I’m hoping the Sunderland fans will see the real Adnan Januzaj.”

Januzaj, who is eligible to make his Sunderland debut against Manchester City on Saturday, spent part of last season on loan with the German club Borussia Dortmund but was recalled after struggling to break into the first team.

Meanwhile, Moyes insists the Everton target Lamine Koné remains part of his plans despite the defender’s transfer request. The Ivory Coast defender, who was signed from the French side Lorient in January for around £5m, was the subject of a £17m bid from Everton last week.

Koné still has four years left to run on the deal he signed seven months ago but released a statement on Thursday which claimed he had been assured they would renegotiate after surviving relegation last season.

“We’ve told Lamine Koné he will be offered a new contract in September,” said Moyes on Friday afternoon. “Lamine is very much part of my plans. We will renew his contract on 1 September. Lamine is a big part of the team, the fans like him and we need him.”
