Maxi Rodríguez may return to the Liverpool team for their meeting with Brighton

Liverpool will wish for a more low-key affair than last weekend's explosive match at Old Trafford and, having already beaten Brighton this season, away in the League Cup, they will be hopeful of progressing. Kenny Dalglish, who yesterday said the players are having a "reasonably successful season", could have Maxi Rodríguez fit again. Brighton have signed the Manchester City youngsters Abdul Razak and Gai Assulin on loan and are expected to have Will Buckley back, but there are doubts over Vicente Rodríguez. Marcus Christenson
