Middlesbrough 4-2 Blackpool
Tony Mowbray said he feared Boro were set to throw away their lead after Blackpool staged a second-half mini-revival. "It was a bit nervous in the second half, especially when we gave away the penalty but Jason Steele made a truly fantastic save to keep us in front." Michael Appleton said: "When I took over people told me that when Blackpool are good they are very, very good, but when they are bad they are awful. I think in the first half I saw that bad side."
Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-2 Ipswich Town
Mick McCarthy admitted beating his old club 2-0 at Molineux was a special moment. "After my last game here [a 5-1 defeat against West Brom] I had to go out of the back door and I will never forget that. It was a real horrible day for me. So to have won and to have had an ovation I think shows what most Wolves fans really thought about me. The ones who were singing to get me out are doing it to Stale Solbakken now. Be careful: you might get what you wish for."
