Steven Spielberg hopes to direct Chris Pratt in next Indiana Jones movie

Latest Indiana Jones film is in early stages of production, but Guardians of the Galaxy star Pratt is expected to replace Harrison Ford

Steven Spielberg hopes to direct the next Indiana Jones film if Guardians of the Galaxy’s Chris Pratt signs on to replace Harrison Ford as the whip-cracking archaeological adventurer, reports Deadline.

Spielberg directed all four Indiana Jones movies between 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark and 2008’s poorly received Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Spielberg is said to be on board provided the screenplay is to his satisfaction, though the movie remains at a very early stage of development. Disney bought rights to Indiana Jones from creator George Lucas as part of its $4.05bn purchase of Star Wars production company Lucasfilm in October 2012.

Last year, reports suggested another Hollywood high-flyer, Bradley Cooper, was set to put on Indy’s fedora. But producer Frank Marshall denied the rumour on Twitter.

The Indiana Jones franchise has taken almost $2bn at the global box office, placing the saga in the top 20 highest-grossing series of all time.
