Susan Boyle movie on track after One Chance

Britain's Got Talent winner says 'plans are in operation' for long-mooted biopic

The long-mooted biopic of Britain's Got Talent star Susan Boyle looks like it is finally getting off the ground, thanks to the success of One Chance, the film about another BGT celebrity, Paul Potts.

Speaking at a press conference to launch her Christmas single, Boyle said: "There are plans in operation for that" and to "watch this space".

A film about Boyle, who won the 2009 edition of Britain's Got Talent, has been in the pipeline for years, with rumours even suggesting that Glenn Close and Catherine Zeta Jones were interested in playing her. (Boyle's choice, apparently, would be Elaine Smith, who played Mary in Rab Nesbitt.)

Despite some adverse reviews – the Guardian's Peter Bradshaw called it a "treacly, tepid heartwarmer" – One Chance represents a significant step forward for the film-making ambitions of BGT co-creator Simon Cowell. A Susan Boyle film would represent his fourth feature film credit, after One Direction: This Is Us, One Chance, and the forthcoming Pudsey: The Movie, about yet another Britain's Got Talent winner.
